Founded in 2003 by Managing Director Julian O’Connell, General Metal Recyclers Ltd (GMR) has grown to become one of New Zealand’s larger 100% NZ owned scrap metal dealers. Prior to this Julian had been in the scrap metal industry for around 12 years working for another company, which GMR later purchased. GMR’s clear focus is on knowing our clients’ needs, and our commitment to safety and specific skill learning for our power related and industry specific clients has fuelled GMR’s early success, and continues to drive us to this day. We are always growing with our clients’ needs and offering solutions around scopes of work and recycling to further improve productivity and services. A number of the GMR team have recently completed Transpower TPSS 06.21 SI (Substation Induction) and TPSS 06.21 RAE (Restricted Area Entry) training courses so you can rest assured you have a trained team on your site who are serious about everyone’s safety. This has resulted in a highly skilled, energetic team with a wellrounded knowledge in the industry, and has led to GMR being known by some of our clients as the specialists in the recycling of engineering redundant plant and assets. OUR AIM: To provide a safe, hazard-free environment for staff, visitors, partners and contractors throughout General Metal Recyclers Ltd’s sites and external locations. OUR OBJECTIVES: To ensure the physical layout and basic operation of GMR complies and exceeds with the accepted standards of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 (HSE Act) and Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995 (HSE Regulations). To implement a safety system by developing a culture of safety in the workplace and encouraging management and staff to work together to identify, assess and control workplace health and safety hazards and risks. To go beyond legal compliance and implement an Occupational Health Safety System designed to improve the overall safety and long-term health of the organisation.
